Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met today (Tuesday) with Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, who arrived for a special visit in light of the security situation in Israel. This marks the second visit by a German representative after Annalena Baerbock, the country's Foreign Minister, visited Israel last week.
During the reception at Ben Gurion Airport, Cohen told the German Chancellor, "Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to the security of the State of Israel as the nation of the Jewish people. I thank you for this important visit, which demonstrates that Germany indeed stands by the side of the State of Israel and supports the struggle for our existence and the security of our citizens."
Cohen: "We expose to the world the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists"
According to the Foreign Minister, "Chancellor Germany's visit to Israel during a time of war is a clear message to the world. Germany stands alongside Israel in its right to defend its citizens in its war against the threat of terrorism. Germany is one of our closest and most important allies, and they also understand that Hamas is worse than ISIS, and Israel must eliminate this threat.
"We highly appreciate the Chancellor for his arrival in Israel during this difficult time. These solidarity visits strengthen international support for Israel and expose the visitors to the horrors committed by Hamas terrorists."
