Airstrikes carried out by the Air Force last night (between Monday and Tuesday) as part of Operation Swords of Iron killed Zakaria Abu Muammar, one of the senior figures of the Hamas terror organization, and head of the international relations office in the organization's political office in the Gaza Strip.
In his role, Abu Muammar was responsible for decision making in the Strip, operating internal communications and coordinating the organizations in the Gaza Strip. Abu Muammar was known to be close to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and did a great deal in his position to incite and act against the sovereignty of the State of Israel and endanger its citizens.
In addition, he served in the organization's senior forum as part of his role and was thus involved in the organization's decision making and planned many actions and strategies against Israeli security.
This assassination joins with another one carried out last night - the elimination of Jawad Abu Shamale, the Economy Minister of the Hamas terror organization. As part of his position, Shamale managed the organization's funds and designated the money for funding and directing terror inside and outside the Gaza Strip.
Shamale also formerly held security positions inside the terror organization and led a number of actions aimed at harming Israeli civilians as part of those roles.
