During a traffic enforcement operation conducted this morning in the Ben Tzvi-Rabin Street area of Jerusalem, police officers and a volunteer from the Jerusalem District Police who were working at the scene detained, for a routine inspection, a driver who had another woman in the car with him.

During the inspection, suspicion arose among the police team that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so the police volunteer decided to conduct a breathalyzer test on the driver.

At a certain point during the inspection, the driver of the vehicle suddenly pressed the gas pedal and fled quickly from the scene, hitting the police volunteer who was conducting enforcement activity. As a result of the hit-and-run, the police volunteer was taken to the hospital in moderate condition to receive medical treatment.

Additional police forces under the command of Zion District Commander Ronen Ovadia were called to the area and began conducting searches and additional operations to locate and apprehend the suspect involved in the hit-and-run. The police have opened an investigation with the goal of apprehending and bringing to justice the driver who ran over the police volunteer and fled the scene.
