This evening (Wednesday), the police arrested suspects for disorderly conduct and throwing objects at police officers and passing buses near the Old City in Jerusalem at Sha'ar Shchem.
In the afternoon and evening, after dispersing the worshipers, a small group of young individuals began to disrupt the order in the Sha'ar Shchem area by throwing bottles and objects towards the police forces present in the area, as well as at passing buses for no apparent reason. There were no casualties or damage reported.
In a short period of time, those young individuals who were disrupting the order were dispersed and removed from the scene by police and Border Police forces. During this operation, the officers arrested and apprehended 8 suspects involved in disorderly conduct and throwing objects. While being arrested, a number of individuals attempting to disrupt and interfere with the police forces during the arrest were also pushed away. The arrested suspects were taken in for questioning at the police station.
From the Israel Police, it was stated: "We view with severity the exploitation of a religious holiday by a group of troublemakers, attempting to harm police officers or civilians and disrupt the routine in the area. The Israel Police will continue to ensure freedom of religious expression for every individual while simultaneously taking action against those who disturb the peace and violate the law, attempting to harm the security forces or road users."
