The government today (Wednesday) approved the appointment of the Minister of Settlement and National Missions Orit Strook as a member of the Committee for the Appointment of Judges.
The members of this committee are three members of the government, where according to this law there should be the minister of religion, the minister of justice, and another minister chosen by the government - and on the condition that at least one of them is a woman.
Until now, the Minister of Religions Michael Malchieli, and the Minister from the Ministry of Justice Dudi Amsalem (in the place of the Minister Yariv Levin) have been appointed, and now the government has completed its representatives, with the company of Minister Strook.
After the vote at the cabinet meeting, Minister Struck said: "It is appropriate to appoint the kosher judges to revive Israel and settle them on their land" (Sanhedrin 42, and Rashi Parashat Shofitim on the verse "Justice shall be pursued so that you may live and inherit the land"). With courage and trepidation, and knowing the magnitude of the responsibility, I accept the position of Minister on the Committee for the Appointment of Judges."
Who else is on the committee?
On behalf of the Knesset, the two members have already been elected - on behalf of the opposition, MK Pnina Tamano-Shata (National Unity), and on behalf of the coalition, MK Eliyahu Baruchi (United Torah Judaism).
The committee has 13 members and besides the politicians there are also the two chief rabbis, two judges from the Great Rabbinical Court, two representatives of the Israel Bar Association and two other female rabbis.
