Today, the United States will mark 22 years since the September 11 attacks, the attack in which al-Qaeda terrorists crashed two planes full of passengers into the Twin Towers, killing thousands in what became the deadliest terrorist attack in human history.
22 years after that black day, the United States will once again bow its head and mourn the 2,977 people who were murdered in the horrific attack. For the September 11 event, the ceremony is expected to begin at 3:30 PM Israel time.
September 11 is a complex day in American culture, many in the US public see the attacks as a defining event that led the nation to what it is today, similar to the Yom Kippur War in Israel, it is important to remember that the deadly terrorist attack is not only the deadliest terrorist attack in history, it is also the deadliest attack that ever occurred within the borders of the United States, in the attack itself close to three thousand people were murdered, on the other hand in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the event that brought the Americans into World War II, a little more than 2000 people were killed.
Beyond that, it was a coordinated and extensive attack, which was planned for months and was completely missed by the American security forces and enforcement authorities, 19 terrorists with an Islamic background and connections to extreme organizations managed to infiltrate the United States, take flying lessons, and carry out the attack without any hindrance.
These events changed the USA and the world, Beyond the fact that America went to war against global terrorism and sank into the Middle Eastern sands for twenty years in Iraq and Afghanistan, the event is among the leading factors in the current American withdrawal from the Middle East, the generation that sat at home or at school and watched the towers collapse chooses to shake off its hands from the middle east
The world of aviation has also of course changed beyond recognition, A pilot will never again relinquish control of the plane even if all its passengers are in danger of life, and even if a plane is hijacked in the air, it will be immediately intercepted for all its passengers, and it doesn't matter in which country it happens.
September 11 is still a bleeding wound in American society, to illustrate how much, until now the bodies of the dead continue to be identified, just two days ago the New York police announced that after using new D.N.A studies, two more dead were identified and a message was given to their families, this bloody wound is still resonates in American society and has led to many far-reaching changes in America and the world.
