During an event marking the inauguration of a synagogue in the city of Beit Shemesh, the Chief Sephardic Rabbi, the Rishon LeZion Yitzhak Yosef, commented on the current Minister of Religious Services, Michael Malchieli, in comparison to his predecessor in the role.

During his remarks, Rabbi Yosef said, "For years, there hasn't been a Minister of Religious Services who walked in the ways of Torah like Minister Malchieli. There were ministers of religions... some of them we suffered from, but blessed be the Lord, Ben Porat Yosef, he is walking in the path of Torah."

In fact, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, who is expected to conclude his tenure in the coming year, is referring to the tenure of Matan Kahana, the former Minister of Religious Services, because all the other ministers in the past decade were appointed from the Shas party.
