The smuggling of drones from Israeli territory to the Gaza Strip to collect intelligence was thwarted at the last moment at the Erez crossing, at least ten drones were caught.
The security inspectors of the Ministry of Defense's Border Crossings Authority conducted a routine inspection process at the Erez crossing. During a scan of a minibus, a dog from the Erez crossing's K9 unit led the inspectors to a black bag concealed in the vehicle.
When they opened the bag, the inspectors identified that it was a smuggling attempt hidden in the minibus on its way to Gaza. Inside the bag, they found ten drones that were destined for the Gaza Strip.
According to the Ministry of Defense, these are surveillance drones that, according to suspicion, were intended for terrorist elements in the Gaza Strip for the purpose of gathering intelligence and identifying targets. The prevention of the smuggling is a significant operational achievement with implications for future operations.
