The Czech Republic is close to officially announcing the relocation of its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

A senior Czech official recently met with a top Israeli counterpart and conveyed that the Czech government has decided to move forward with the transfer in the near future.

The move reportedly follows a request by President Donald Trump, who first relocated the American embassy to Jerusalem in 2018 during his previous term.

Czechia has maintained strong ties with Israel, and since the October 7th attacks, has consistently stood by Jerusalem. In 2018, Prague opened offices in Jerusalem for cultural and economic affairs, later expanding them with consular services.

Within the European Union, Hungary has also expressed a willingness to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem but prefers not to be the first EU country to take such a bold step. During Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Budapest, Hungarian officials reiterated their support for the move, while making clear they await the right political timing.

The matter will be further discussed later today in Netanyahu’s meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. On Thursday, Hungary gave Israel a significant diplomatic boost by withdrawing from the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

To date, six countries have established embassies in Jerusalem: the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea. Argentina’s President Javier Milei is also expected to announce a similar move by year’s end, though internal political hurdles remain. Fiji has already declared its intention to open an embassy in Israel, likely becoming the seventh nation to do so.
