Harris, Clinton, and more: Trump revokes security  clearances from his rivals in shock directive

This decision, which was detailed in a memo released on Friday, comes as part of Trump’s ongoing efforts to limit the influence of political adversaries who, in his view, no longer require access to sensitive government intelligence.

“I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information,” Trump stated in the memo. He further directed that all executive department and agency heads take immediate action, in accordance with existing laws, to revoke any active security clearances held by the individuals named. This includes stripping their ability to access classified materials going forward.

This decision is not the first of its kind. Back in February, Trump made headlines by announcing that he would revoke President Joe Biden’s security clearance, as well as his intelligence briefings. It was also revealed that Biden's family members would no longer have access to sensitive intelligence, though details about their prior access have not been disclosed.

Among the notable figures targeted in this most recent move are former Republican Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. Both of these individuals had served on the House committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, and their actions during the investigation likely played a role in their inclusion on Trump's list. Other high-profile figures affected include New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, both of whom were instrumental in the legal challenges against Trump, including the recent felony conviction for falsifying business records.

This action follows a broader trend in Trump's administration, one that has seen security clearances revoked for a number of individuals he views as adversaries. Earlier this month, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also revoked clearances for former Biden officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Trump’s efforts to revoke security clearances reflect his long-standing vow to target officials he believes have used intelligence resources or legal authority against him. His administration's first wave of clearance revocations came on inauguration day, targeting intelligence veterans who had signed onto a letter in 2020 that dismissed Hunter Biden’s laptop as part of a Russian disinformation campaign. Additionally, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, a vocal critic of Trump, saw similar treatment after publishing a memoir critical of the administration.

These actions highlight the ongoing political tensions in the United States and raise important questions about the intersection of intelligence, politics, and national security in an increasingly polarized environment.
