Shots fired near the White House: Secret Service takes down armed man
Secret Service officers opened fire on a man brandishing a weapon just blocks from the White House after he refused to comply with commands, raising security concerns in the nation’s capital.


A man “brandishing a firearm” near the White House was shot by U.S. Secret Service officers early Sunday morning following a confrontation, the agency said.
The suspect, who is believed to have traveled from Indiana, had been flagged by local police as a “potential suicide risk” before arriving in Washington, D.C. Secret Service officers located his vehicle near 17th and F Streets NW around midnight and found a man nearby matching the suspect’s description.
When officers approached, the man brandished a firearm, leading to an “armed confrontation” in which shots were fired. The suspect was taken to a hospital, though his condition remains “unknown.” No Secret Service personnel were harmed in the incident, which happened “just one block away from the White House” while President Donald Trump was at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the shooting.

"On Sunday March 9th, an adult male was shot by U.S. Secret Service personnel following an armed confrontation with law enforcement in Washington DC.
Earlier on Saturday, local police shared information about a suicidal individual who may be traveling to Washington DC from Indiana. Around midnight, members of the Secret Service encountered the individual's parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, NW. They also saw an individual on foot matching the description nearby.
As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. There were no reported injuries to Secret Service personnel.
The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division's Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia."
