Shocking poll reveals: Major drop in Democratic support for Israel 

This stark decline has widened the divide between political parties, with Republican support for Israel holding firm at 83%, while independent support has also tumbled from 71% to a mere 48% since 2022.

The shift in sentiment among Democrats has prompted a scramble by party leaders to manage the fallout. Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, has pointed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government as the root cause of the erosion in support. According to Soifer, Netanyahu’s close ties with former President Donald Trump have tainted the public perception of Israel within the Democratic base. "Prime Minister Netanyahu’s close alignment with Donald Trump has clouded the way some see Israel," Soifer said in an interview with JTA.

However, the Republican Jewish Coalition quickly seized on the poll's findings, asserting that the data proves the GOP is now the only party that can be considered reliably pro-Israel. They declared, “The numbers don’t lie: there is only ONE pro-Israel party, and it is the GOP."

The poll’s timing is significant, as President Trump continues to solidify his standing as one of Israel’s most ardent supporters in Washington. Trump recently hosted Netanyahu at the White House and voiced strong support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza. On Fox News, Trump stated, “Sometimes you have to make a decision… it’s a rough decision. You know, when you see what’s happening there… you just wonder about the condition of the hostages that they have.” Trump's unwavering backing of Israel and his condemnation of Hamas have only heightened the partisan divide, with many now seeing him as Israel's most reliable ally in the U.S. government.
