Fatal stabbing in France: Islamic extremism suspected
Authorities detained four individuals after a deadly knife attack in eastern France, with investigators probing ties to radical Islamist ideology.

Four individuals were taken into custody on Sunday following a deadly stabbing in Mulhouse, eastern France, an attack authorities have linked to Islamic extremism, according to The Associated Press.
The attack, which occurred near the German border on Saturday, resulted in the death of a Portuguese man and left seven police officers injured. A parking control agent was also hospitalized with serious wounds.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Algerian national Brahim A., was among those arrested. Prosecutors described him as an Islamic extremist with a schizophrenic profile. Authorities also detained two of his family members and a person who had provided him with lodging.
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack as “Islamist terrorism” and reaffirmed his government’s determination to combat such threats.
According to the prosecutor, the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the assault and was armed with a knife and a screwdriver. Having initially arrived in France without documentation in 2014, he was later convicted of glorifying terrorism following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. After serving several months in prison, he was placed under house arrest while authorities attempted to deport him to Algeria.
