Her 1st public statement since fleeing Syria

Bashar Assad's wife Asma launches Twitter account – Here's what she posted

Asma al-Assad, the wife of deposed Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and currently battling leukemia in a Moscow hospital, has launched her first X account with messages of hope while avoiding political commentary, as her son confirms plans to "tell the story as it truly happened." The move comes amid reports that she has filed for divorce from the former dictator and is seeking immigration to her native Britain.

Former Syrian First Lady Asma al-Assad, currently hospitalized with a serious leukemia condition, has created a new account on X (formerly Twitter). The development comes as her husband, former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, remains in exile in Moscow following the collapse of their regime.

The account's authenticity was confirmed by her son Hafez Assad through his Telegram channel. "Every event has its stories, and every era holds its secrets," he wrote. "The goal isn't to spark controversy, but to tell the story as it truly happened, away from tensions and accusations. What remained in the shadows will now be brought to light," he stated, according to Maariv newspaper.

In her inaugural post, the ailing former First Lady expressed hope for "a new beginning." She wrote, "After a period of silence, it's time for a fresh start. Hope and change are constant - let's begin this journey together." Addressing the situation in Syria, she added, "Syria, with all its beauty and rich history, remains forever in our hearts. We wish security and prosperity for its people, and may joyful days return to every corner of its blessed land."

Asma al-Assad emphasized her intention to remain politically neutral: "Throughout recent years, I've maintained my silence on political matters, and I will continue to abstain from such involvement in the future. I maintain hope that peace and security will prevail throughout our homeland, and that people can live in safety and tranquility."

She continued with a reflection on the meaning of homeland: "A homeland isn't merely a location, but a feeling that resides in the heart, regardless of distance. Syria will always remain the most beautiful story. Life leads us down unexpected paths, teaching and changing us, opening doors we never imagined. Every phase has its lesson, and every change carries meaning."

Reports indicate that following the family's flight from Syria, Asma al-Assad filed an immigration request to her native Britain. More recently, she has initiated divorce proceedings against Bashar al-Assad in Moscow, where he currently enjoys political asylum following the collapse of his regime.
