Jack Danaher Molloy, 24, a Pennsylvania resident, dual citizen of the U.S. and Ireland and a former US Army soldier, reportedly traveled to Lebanon and Syria to try and join Hezbollah, according to a Department of Justice statement reported by Reuters last night (Thursday/Friday).
Molloy reportedly failed in his effort to join while in the Middle East but continued to attempt to do so when he returned to the United States in late 2024, continuing to make antisemitic statements and promote violence against Jews.
Molloy is now being charged with trying to join a designated terrorist organization and lying to the FBI when claiming he was not trying to join Hezbollah.
If convicted, Molloy faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for material support for terrorism. Molloy faces a maximum penalty of eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both for lying to the FBI.
