Senior law enforcement sources confirmed Livelsberger’s identity to KOAA and KTNV, though it has not been publicly disclosed. Livelsberger, who served for over 19 years, including 18 years with Special Forces, died in the explosion that rocked the hotel’s valet area early Wednesday morning, Yeshiva world news reveals.
This bombing comes just hours after another devastating terrorist attack in New Orleans, where Shamsud Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd, killing 15 and injuring many more. Both attackers had rented their vehicles via the app Turo, prompting investigators to consider possible links between the two attacks.
Authorities revealed that Livelsberger had rented the Cybertruck in Colorado Springs through Turo before driving it to Las Vegas. Surveillance footage showed the truck parked outside the hotel moments before it exploded at 8:40 a.m., causing debris to scatter and raising concerns of further attacks. The truck’s sturdy frame is believed to have contained much of the explosion, potentially preventing more casualties.
Investigators later discovered fireworks mortars, canisters, and explosive devices in the truck bed, although the detonation method is still under investigation.
Later that night, FBI agents raided a Colorado Springs townhome linked to Livelsberger, evacuating neighbors while conducting the search. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) assisted in the operation, reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Livelsberger’s military background has drawn attention, particularly since he had served at the same base as Jabbar, the perpetrator of the New Orleans attack. Jabbar, allegedly linked to ISIS, rammed a pickup truck, adorned with an ISIS flag, into a crowd on Bourbon Street during New Year’s celebrations. Authorities are now investigating whether Livelsberger and Jabbar had any prior connections.
“Do I think it’s a coincidence? I don’t know,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill. “We’re absolutely looking into any connections to New Orleans.”
In New Orleans, investigators found additional explosive devices and firearms at the crash site, suggesting Jabbar may have had accomplices. FBI field offices across multiple states are pursuing leads to determine whether a larger plot is in play.
Some officials have speculated that Livelsberger may have deliberately chosen the Cybertruck, designed by Elon Musk, to target the Trump hotel, possibly sending a political message. Musk’s association with President-elect Donald Trump has fueled these theories.
“It’s a Tesla truck, we know Elon Musk is working with President-elect Trump, and it’s the Trump hotel—so there’s obviously something to look at,” McMahill noted.
Trump responded to the bombing with his typical vigor, blaming weak border security and ineffective leadership. “Our country is a disaster,” he posted on Truth Social. “Only strength and powerful leadership will stop it. See you on January 20th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Turo, the car-sharing service used by both attackers, expressed sorrow over the tragedies. “We are actively partnering with law enforcement authorities as they investigate both incidents,” said a Turo spokesperson. “We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in risk management.”
