This shooting occurred hours after an unrelated vehicle attack in New Orleans that left 15 dead and 30 injured on Bourbon Street.

As reported by Tzap Magazine: "The attack in New York occurred in an area of Queens with a small Jewish population. Google Maps show that the nearest synagogue is a 16-minute walk away. Unlike Queens' Main Street area, which has a large Jewish community and many synagogues, this location has hardly any Jewish institutions. For context, Queens is also home to the burial site of the renowned Lubavitcher Rebbe, the leader of the worldwide Chabad movement."
