HORRIBLE: Passenger plane crashes in Kazakhstan

A plane flying from Azerbaijan to Chechnya crashed in Kazakhstan. Authorities say there are survivors and that they are trying to put out a fire at the site.

A passenger plane en route from Baku in Azerbaijan to Grozny in Russia controlled Chechnya crashed in the city of Aktau in Azerbaijan hours ago (Wednesday), according to Reuters. The plane had reportedly rerouted due to fog in Grozny.

Kazakh authorities said that they believed there were survivors on the plane and that they were trying to put out a fire at the crash site.

According to Azeri reports as related by Kann News, the plane crashed due to a collision with a flock of birds.

Kazakh Health Minister said that "Nothing is known yet. 14 ambulance teams have left for the scene. A national headquarters has been created, a vice minister has left for there, one vice minister is coordinating the work here (in Astana - ed.). Air ambulances have been prepared at the scene to leave and send specialists there - traumatologists, neurosurgeons, and so on. And we will provide assistance on the spot. If necessary, we will evacuate. The work is underway," according to Tengri News.
