The Russian Foreign Ministry issued an unusual warning to the country's citizens on Monday, calling on them to avoid travel to the United States, European Union countries and North America in general, including Canada, according to Channel 14 News.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "relations with the Americans are on the brink of an abyss," and clarified that under the current circumstances, the Russian authorities cannot guarantee the safety and security of the country's citizens residing in the United States or other parts of North America.
The warning comes after a series of statements and incidents indicating a deterioration in relations between the two powers, which have not been found at a lower level since the days of the Cold War.
The Kremlin's announcement comes mainly against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the escalation of tension in this arena since Biden's authorization of the Ukrainians to use long-range missiles, and on the other hand, the threat of the Russians using nuclear weapons on Ukrainian soil.
The travel warning for Russian citizens is seen as a significant step that indicates the growing diplomatic tension and highlights the deep gaps in international relations between Moscow and Washington.
