Magnitude 5.7 earthquake hits Iran’s west
10 km deep tremor strikes western region; authorities assess potential impact.


An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 occurred tonight (Wednesday-Thursday) in western Iran, according to a report by the German Research Center for Geoscience, GFZ. The earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Reuters, there have not yet been official Iranian reports on the extent of the human or material damage caused by the earthquake. The local authorities are working to assess the situation and determine the possible consequences, while anticipating any developments that may require urgent intervention.
Similarly, a week ago, an earthquake of the same magnitude of 5.7 struck the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. There too because the depth of the noise source was 10 km.
