ADL study: Jews and Israelis face discrimination in job market

A study conducted by the Antidefamation League showed significantly lower response rates to identifiably Jewish and Israeli resumes as opposed to generic Western European ones.

A study conducted for the Antidefamation League and published today (Wednesday) shows that Jews and Israelis face significant discrimination in applying for jobs online.

The study, conducted by Dr. Bryan Tomlin of California State University Channel Islands, created a sample of about 3,000 resumes containing names and identifying markers of generic Western European Americans, Jews, and Israelis, and sent them to a selection of job placements in cities throughout the USA advertised on Craigslist.

The study found that Jewish and Israeli sounding resumes were less likely to receive responses in almost all cities where job applications were sent, aside from New York and Pennsylvania where Jews actually received a higher response rate.
