Mike Huckabee, recently named by President-elect Donald Trump as his pick for U.S. ambassador to Israel, spoke with Galei Zahal Radio about his reaction to the appointment and his long-standing support for Israel.

“I’m still a bit in shock,” Huckabee shared. “This is a tremendous honor. I’m incredibly grateful the President has chosen me for this role, and while there’s a lot I’m still learning about the timeline, it’s a wonderful opportunity to serve my country and support a nation I deeply admire.”

Looking back on his history with Israel, Huckabee noted, “I visited Israel in 1973, almost 53 years ago, and since then I have made dozens of trips to the country. I have taken tens of thousands of Americans to visit Israel and it has been an amazing honor.”

Excited about his new role, Huckabee added, “I can’t describe the excitement of this appointment. I hope the honor that the president has given me will be well founded.” His commitment to Israel’s security is clear, especially regarding Judea and Samaria. “I have been a frequent visitor to Judea and Samaria and I believe that there is a chance of applying Israeli sovereignty to the region,” he said, emphasizing his dedication to helping Israel maintain a “secure and safe country.”

Huckabee further explained, “Of course I will not be the one to make the policy, but I will carry out the president’s policy.” He then pointed out Trump’s historical support for Israel, saying, “There has never been a US president who has been more helpful in ensuring the sovereignty of Israel. No one has done more for Israel, including recognition of the Golan Heights, than President Trump.”
