Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke today (Tuesday) on the phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani regarding regional issues in the Middle East.
While also discussing the matter of reaching a ceasefire in Lebanon and returning the residents on both sides of the border safely to their homes, Blinken also stressed the importance of Iraq reining in all armed forces in the country.
According to Blinken, it was imperative that all armed forces - including pro-Iranian militias - be prevented from firing on US troops and firing weapons towards Israel, which they have often done since the war began on October 7th.
The Iraqi Prime Minister himself as well as senior political leaders in Iraq noted that the country was trying hard to prevent Iran from using Iraqi territory to launch a major attack on Israel, which would lead to an IDF strike on Iraqi targets in retaliation.
