A U.S. Postal Service worker allegedly threw about 300 mailers supporting New Jersey Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. into a dumpster outside a Pennsylvania supermarket two weeks ago — and the incident, caught on camera, may have cost her job.
A security guard reportedly witnessed the woman, dressed in a USPS uniform, pull up in her Toyota Prius to a ShopRite dumpster in Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, where she removed several bins from her trunk and discarded them, according to the New Jersey Globe. "We saw her dump it," the guard told the publication.
The entire scene was captured on surveillance footage, which was turned over to Postal Service investigators.
USPS spokesman Xavier Hernandez confirmed they are “aware of the allegation of mishandled political mail.” The Globe’s editor, David Wildstein, later posted that a USPS official confirmed the woman “has been removed from her job as a postal worker in Succasunna, NJ.”
Kean, the son of former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean, is currently locked in a fierce contest for his seat in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
