Trump-Nazi comparisons elicit heated response as Harris distances herself

The Trump campaign intensified its response on Tuesday, condemning comparisons that equate the former president to a Nazi and accusing the Harris campaign of portraying Trump supporters as Nazis.

While Vice President Kamala Harris previously labeled Trump a "fascist," she stopped short of making the direct comparison her running mate Tim Walz did, when he suggested parallels between Trump’s Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden and a 1939 rally held at the same location.

On Monday afternoon, WISN 12 News reporter Matt Smith questioned Walz repeatedly about his Nazi analogy, asking if he stood by his remarks. Walz responded, "Look, I'm comparing it to the hate that came out of this, and I think they confirmed that," noting that figures close to Trump, like Mark Milley, have labeled the former president a fascist and stressing why he believes Harris is the best choice for the country.

When pressed again on his Nazi comparison, Walz replied, "The rally, you saw for yourself. I'll let the American public make the decision of what they saw. So I know what I saw, and I'll just leave it at that."

On Tuesday, Smith asked Harris directly if she agreed with Walz’s comparison to Nazis. Harris avoided a direct answer, instead stating that Trump is "constantly fanning the flames of division" and describing him as "unstable and unfit." Harris also did not specifically address Walz's comments.
