Brown University (BU) has suspended the campus chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) while an investigation is conducted into their allegedly "intimidating" activities on campus, as reported on Sunday.

In a statement regarding the suspension, which took effect on October 24, BU emphasized that "given the severity of alleged threatening, intimidating and harassing actions during an event on campus," the SJP branch would be temporarily halted.

This suspension follows a campus protest on October 18, where SJP members rallied against the Brown Corporation's decision not to divest from Israel. Until the review is complete, SJP must cease all activities, as BU policy dictates that a suspension results in the group losing its official recognition as a campus organization, thereby preventing it from holding meetings or events.

The university further stated that while "protest is a necessary and acceptable means of expression," they will not tolerate any intimidation or harassment of community members, nor allow the infringement of others' rights.
