Italian FM stands firm: Unwavering support for Israel at UNGA event
During a high-profile event in New York, the Italian Foreign Minister reaffirms solidarity with Israel, drawing attention from global leaders.

During the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which sees hundreds of heads of state gathering in New York City, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, voiced strong support for Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Hamas. This statement came at an exclusive event hosted by the European Leadership Network (ELNET) on Sunday evening.
Addressing around 70 influential business and philanthropic leaders from the Jewish and Italian communities, Tajani highlighted the interconnectedness of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, pointing to Iran and Russia as key players in this “dangerous situation.” He framed the current global landscape as a clash between “democracies” and “autocracies.”
Tajani also criticized Spain’s recent formal recognition of a Palestinian state, asserting, “I am against it… Palestine as a state doesn’t exist. It is the West Bank and Gaza, and Gaza is under terrorist control.”
The event, held in the Upper East Side residence of Ari Ackerman, co-owner of the Miami Marlins, featured a selection of kosher Chianti wines and hors d’oeuvres like potato latkes and spicy salmon balls.
Notable attendees included William Daroff, CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations; Israeli fashion designer Galit Levi; Mariangela Zappia, Italy’s ambassador to the U.S.; and Maurizio Massari, Italy’s permanent representative to the U.N.
