Anti-Israel protesters interrupted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday night.
Pelosi was at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago for a live taping of the talk show, held one day after the Democratic National Convention, which was taking place about three miles away at the United Center.
During her discussion about her book, The Art of Power, the conversation shifted to the Israel-Hamas conflict and ongoing ceasefire negotiations. As Pelosi spoke, a protester shouted, “Free Palestine,” and questioned the U.S. role in the Middle East.
Pelosi responded, “We just got word earlier today that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire agreement. We’re hoping Hamas will too. But it takes me to the point of saying to you ‘War has no role in a civilized society.’”
As she continued, another protester interrupted, prompting Pelosi to emphasize the need for trust, peace, and dialogue over conflict. Colbert briefly acknowledged the protesters outside the venue, noting that Pelosi’s response was “unsatisfying to some people,” before being cut off by further shouting.
