A senior UN disarmament official has come under scrutiny for alleged secret connections to Iran's military and nuclear program, according to reports obtained by the Jewish Chronicle.
Abdolrasool Divsallar, currently a prominent figure at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), denies any involvement with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) or its nuclear activities. However, documents suggest that Divsallar has advised an IRGC general and held positions at institutions later sanctioned due to their nuclear work.
In a 2015 interview with Borna News, Divsallar praised his time working with IRGC General Gholamreza Jalali, describing it as "one of the best times of my career" and expressing admiration for the general’s leadership. He also spoke highly of another IRGC figure, Mohsen Rezaie, who is wanted by Interpol in connection with the 1994 bombing of the AMIA building in Buenos Aires.
Divsallar, who now works with the UN's Middle East Weapons of Mass Destruction Free Zone (MEWMDFZ) initiative, has declined to provide further details about his past roles, citing "security reasons."
