Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign announced the appointment of Ilan Goldenberg as its new Jewish outreach director. Goldenberg, a prominent Middle East policy expert, previously played a significant role in the 2013 Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.
Goldenberg’s involvement with the Biden administration began in 2021 at the Department of Defense. He later joined Harris' team as a Middle East advisor in 2023 and transitioned to the White House National Security Council in April. His expertise in the region has made him a trusted figure for the Vice President.
Michael Koplow, chief policy officer at the Israel Policy Forum, noted, "He was the vice president’s top staff on Middle East issues on October 7, so I think she probably knows him very well and trusts his judgment and his expertise on Israel issues, which are obviously very important to the Jewish community."
Koplow, who co-authored a 2020 report with Goldenberg advocating for a “new U.S. policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” highlighted that Goldenberg’s views align with President Joe Biden’s approach to the region, emphasizing “freedom, security, and prosperity for all people living between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.”
