Skipping class rather than camping out: Anti-Israel protestors try for "student strike" this semester

The Young Democratic Socialists of America is reportedly planning a different protest tactic to force universities to divest from Israel and force Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

After launching encampments across elite university campuses to protest the war in Gaza, including vandalism and sometimes violent protest and harassment, The Free Press reported today (Monday) that one student alliance may be trying for a new approach: a mass walkout from class.

The Young Democratic Socialists of America are reportedly now encouraging students to "disrupt" student life by skipping class en masse, with the aim of forcing "their school’s divestment from Israel, a ceasefire in Gaza, and free speech on campus.”

The alliance adopted this tactic since it believes the encampments, which received widespread media attention but achieved little, "did not win."

Whether this action will truly take root given the risk of mass suspension or expulsion remains to be seen.
