The NYPD reported a troubling increase in antisemitic incidents across New York City, with 30 such cases recorded in July—three times the 10 antisemitic hate crimes reported in the same month last year.
This surge reflects a broader trend of rising antisemitism that has persisted nearly 10 months following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023.
In July, Jews were the targets of more hate incidents than all other groups combined, a trend that has been consistent since October 2023. The total number of reported hate crimes in the city last month was 52. This included five incidents targeting Asians, one against Black individuals, five based on gender, eight related to sexual orientation, one based on religious bias, and two against white people. Notably, the NYPD did not record any hate incidents directed at Muslims or Hispanic individuals.
The spike in antisemitic incidents began after Hamas’ invasion of Israel on October 7, with 69 such cases reported in October and 62 in November.
