Mexican journalist Alejandro Martinez, who covered one of the country's most dangerous criminal sects, was assassinated in Mexico City, the Associated Press reported.
The journalist was killed yesterday (Sunday) by gunmen, and two of his government-assigned bodyguards were wounded, local authorities said.
The online news page operated by reporter Alejandro Martinez confirmed his death. The page covered community news and crime in Salalah, the most dangerous city for police officers in Mexico.
The Salaya police said that Martins was shot to death by assailants who were traveling in another vehicle. It was also reported that the two bodyguards were treated for their wounds, but not what their condition was.
The journalist received police protection even earlier, after reporting that he was receiving threats on his life. Prosecutors in the north-central state of Guanajuato said they were investigating the murder.
Just hours before he was attacked, Martins was covering a fatal car accident on a dangerous stretch of highway. The wounded bodyguards drove him to a hospital, where he died.
