A statue of Anne Frank, renowned for her diary documenting her hiding from the Nazis during World War II, was vandalized with pro-Palestinian graffiti, AFP reported on Sunday.
Images posted on X show the statue’s base covered in the slogan “Free Gaza,” while the statue’s hands were painted in a blood-red color.
Amsterdam police have launched an investigation into the defacement, which is believed to have occurred overnight from Saturday to Sunday. As of now, no suspects have been identified, according to a police spokesperson.
This incident marks the second time in a month that the Anne Frank statue has been targeted. In July, an earlier act of vandalism saw the word “Gaza” painted on the statue.
