TikTok, Neo-Nazi Propaganda

TikTok's algorithm fuels neo-Nazi propaganda: millions exposed to hate speech

Despite TikTok's claims of fighting hate, neo-Nazi content spreads like wildfire before account bans take effect.

A shocking new report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) has uncovered troubling facts about TikTok’s approach to hate speech and extremism. The study reveals that hundreds of accounts promoting Nazi ideology and hate speech remain active on the platform, despite numerous user reports and violations of community guidelines.

These accounts, which include videos glorifying Hitler, denying the Holocaust, and celebrating Nazi Germany, have amassed tens of millions of views.

The ISD, a respected London-based organization dedicated to combating extremism and disinformation, highlights how TikTok’s algorithm not only fails to remove these accounts but actively amplifies their reach. Despite repeated attempts by users to report the content, including footage of Holocaust denial and pro-Nazi propaganda, TikTok’s response has been woefully inadequate. The platform often designates these reports as “no violation,” allowing the hateful content to spread unchecked.

The report also points out that TikTok’s failure to address these issues effectively undermines the platform’s claims of combating hate speech. Instead of curbing the spread of neo-Nazi content, TikTok’s algorithm enhances its visibility, posing significant risks to users and allowing dangerous ideologies to proliferate.

This revelation raises serious questions about TikTok’s commitment to user safety and its role in enabling extremist content.
