Plane crashes in Kathmandu, killing 18; Captain survives

Flight captain escapes wreckage and is hospitalized; 18 bodies recovered from scene.

On Wednesday, a plane crash occurred at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, as reported by The Kathmandu Post. The incident involved a Saurya Airlines flight, which was bound for Pokhara but failed to safely take off after experiencing a runway excursion.

The aircraft, which was carrying a total of 19 people, including the crew, crashed during takeoff. To date, 18 bodies have been recovered from the scene, while the captain of the flight is the only survivor and has been rushed to a local hospital.

Witnesses described a horrifying scene where the plane tipped over during takeoff, with one of its wings striking the ground before it burst into flames and plunged into a nearby gorge. First responders, including a team of firefighters, are currently on-site dealing with the aftermath of the crash.
