At a World Jewish Congress conference commemorating the 30th anniversary of the deadly Hezbollah bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Argentina, Paraguayan President Santiago Pena said that he would be returning his country's embassy back to Jerusalem.

In his speech, Pena said that Paraguay "is at the side of the Jewish People, no matter the cost." He said the "cause of justice demands" that the embassy be moved to Jerusalem.

In speaking of the dangers Israel and the Jewish People face, he said that "these are not times for the timid, for the lukewarm. We have to take stands."

He ended by quoting author Jorge Luis Borges, who said in response to antisemitism that "I am a Jew," and that he says the same in the face of growing antisemitism today.
