Biden's retirement: another danger for Israel in the political arena

The President of the United States Joe Biden is retiring from the presidential race, the big question on the minds of all Israelis is of course, how does this affect us? It could have a huge impact.

Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race may seem like a strengthening of the pro-Israeli Republican camp, but we have already learned in the past that a democratic president in the White House without political weight is a huge risk to the State of Israel.

The year is 2016, on a dark day in December at the UN Plenary, a plan was formulated between the White House under Obama, the Palestinian Authority and prominent anti-Israel organizations, an American sponsor country would bring to a vote in the Security Council a far-reaching resolution against the settlements in Judea and Samaria, and Obama at the end of his second term would refrain from vetoing it.

Despite his columns that were radical against Israel compared to other presidents, Obama did not publicly injure Israel over the years for fear of hurting the Jewish voice of the Democratic Party, but after Trump was elected, Obama made a decision that he would attack Israel, and until the next election this would be forgotten and would not politically harm his party.

Obama, who was replaced by a Republican president who changed his positions in a complete reversal, decided to "suicide" over the move, in order to leave some trace of the policy he led in the Middle East, the decision that Obama promoted with his partners in the program was, among other things, one of the pillars on which legal arguments that bear fruit today regarding the legality of settlements in Judea and Samaria .

Obama would not have made such a move if he still had to refer to political calculations, he would not have revolted against him the Jews in the party or hurt the democratic president who will come after him by raising the wrath of AIPAC (the American Jewish lobby in the Houses of Representatives) on the Democrats.

We are now facing a scenario that could lead to a direct replay of Obama's moves, if Trump wins Biden's successor, who remains without any achievement in the Middle East in the form of normalization between Israel and the countries in the region as he promised, the president can decide to tattoo Israel or impose legal weights on it as that his predecessor did.

It is not an imaginary possibility that Biden and his team (who inherited most of it from the Obama era) might follow such a course, firstly to punish Israel, which some of Obama's and Biden's people see as responsible for Biden's situation as a result of the war in Gaza which alienated the Muslim voice from Biden according to them, in addition to the desire to leave a long mark Any range on American foreign policy.

The coming period holds many opportunities and dangers for Israel, we are swinging between a new Middle East and a political tsunami, and we must tread carefully and consider our steps wisely throughout the coming months.
