After the Green-led motion to end Bournemouth’s twinning with Netanya was dismissed, the town’s Jewish former mayor commended the Jewish community for “finding its voice.”

The motion, which was to be discussed at a meeting on Wednesday and backed by pro-Palestinian groups, faced strong opposition from the Jewish community.

As the council session continued inside, a dramatic standoff occurred outside the town hall, where hundreds of pro-Israel activists held a counterdemonstration opposite a sizable pro-Palestinian crowd.

The Bournemouth Charter Trustees, guided by legal advice and Standing Orders, ruled that the motion to de-twin with Netanya would not be discussed due to procedural issues.
