Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and owner of X, announced on Tuesday that he plans to relocate both companies' headquarters from California to Texas.

Musk stated that the decision to move was prompted by Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) signing a new law on Tuesday, which prohibits school districts in California from mandating parental notification regarding a child's gender identification change.

“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk posted on X. He later added that X HQ will also move from San Francisco to Austin.

“I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children,” he added.

People magazine reported in 2022 that Elon Musk's 18-year-old daughter was legally granted the right to change her name and gender. She decided to adopt her mother Justine Wilson's maiden name, shedding the Musk family surname.

During an October 2022 interview with the Financial Times, Musk commented on his estranged transgender daughter, stating, "Can't win them all," and emphasized his good relationships with his other children.
