US President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by the White House on Wednesday evening following reports from CNN and other media outlets. The news broke approximately an hour and a half before Biden was scheduled to address the UnidosUS conference in Las Vegas.
"I was just on the phone with President Biden. And he shared his deep disappointment at not being able to join us this afternoon. The President has been at many events as we all know and he just tested positive for COVID," Janet Murguía, president and CEO of UnidosUS, informed attendees.
According to Biden’s doctor, the President has received his first dose of Paxlovid and will undergo self-isolation at his residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
A note from Biden’s doctor, shared by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, indicated that the President exhibited upper respiratory symptoms this afternoon, including rhinorrhea (runny nose) and a non-productive cough, along with a general sense of malaise.
