Refuting claims that the Democratic voters want President Biden to stay in the race for reelection while "elites" want him out, a new AP-NORC poll published today (Wednesday) shows that almost two-thirds of Democrats want him to withdraw from the race.

Of the Democratic groups polled, half of Black Democrats think he should continue running, compared to just 3 in 10 White and Hispanic Democrats.

Worse for Biden given growing concerns about his mental fitness for the job, "only about 3 in 10 Democrats are extremely or very confident that he has the mental capability to serve effectively as president."

The poll was conducted before the assassination attempt on Republican and former President Donald Trump and the nomination of JD Vance as his running mate.
