The Iranian mission to the UN called recent reports in the US media regarding Iranian plots to assassinate Trump to be "unsubstantiated and malicious," according to Iranian state media outlet IRNA.
Iran claims that it considers Trump a "criminal" for assassinating IRGC leader Qassem Suleimani and that it is pursuing legal avenues to punish him for this act.
"Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice," the Iranian mission added.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani also vehemently denied the allegations, according to Iran International English:
"Iran strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran's intention for such an action, considering such allegations to have malicious political motives and objectives," Kanaani stated.
According to reports in the US media, Secret Service protection for the former President and Presidential candidate was increased following intelligence reports of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump.
This reported plot is not believed to be related to the actual attempt made on his life in Pennsylvania last Saturday.
