Former Russian diplomat Vyacheslav Matozov says that Iran has no ambitions to produce nuclear weapons and that all relations between the two countries are based on a promise from Tehran to Moscow.
According to the report on the 'Maariv' website, Matuzov was interviewed by the Saudi Al-Haddad channel, and said: "Russia's position on the issue of the spread of nuclear weapons has not changed, because we are bound by the treaty to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons in the world. We are well aware of the danger inherent in the spread of this type of weapon in the world. Therefore, all relations between Russia and Iran are based from the beginning on the fact that Iran has no ambitions to build a nuclear military legacy."
He added that "the Iranian leadership repeatedly gave guarantees over a long period of time, not to us, but to the International Atomic Energy Agency, which conducted visits and supervised the nuclear efforts currently being invested in Iran with the help of Russia and at the highest level."
Matozov emphasized that "I am very surprised by the US's threats to Iran and the fact that they accuse it of building a nuclear bomb. This position of the US is destructive."
