It's official: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared his country's official recognition of a state of Palestine today (Tuesday) which he had announced the previous week.
According to Sanchez's statement, his country recognizes a Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders whose capital is East Jerusalem, and which includes the Gaza Strip. he also stressed that "Spain will not recognize changes to the borders determined in 1967, unless they are agreed to by all sides."
The Foreign Minister had previously announced on Friday that in retaliation for Spain's decision to recognize a Palestinian state, the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem would now be prohibited from providing services to Palestinians in Judea and Samaria.
In a post published on X, Katz said that the decision was also due to Spain's Deputy Prime Minister calling for a free Palestine "from the river to the sea," a slogan meaning the end of Israel.
He suggested to the Deputy Prime Minister that "If this ignorant, hate-filled individual wants to understand what radical Islam truly seeks, she should study the 700 years of Islamic rule in Al-Andalus—today's Spain."
