Tragedy in Brazil: Israeli tourist plunges to her death

An Israeli tourist was killed in the Santa Teresa neighborhood in the city of Rio de Janeiro after jumping from a height of 15 meters while escaping from a group of robbers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the prosecutor regarding the transfer of her body to Israel.

A 22-year-old Israeli woman was killed tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday) in Rio de Janeiro as a result of a fall from height. The unfortunate event happened after she escaped from a band of robbers in the Santa Teresa neighborhood in Rio. According to eyewitnesses, she was killed on impact after jumping from a height of 15 meters.

Later it was announced that the tourist's name was Alma Buhadana. Police are now investigating the version of the story that the incident took place following an attempted robbery after the Israeli who was accompanying her provided several conflicting accounts.

Following the tragedy, the Department for Israelis Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli Consulate in Brasilia, Netta Avrahami, as well as Mariano Hirsch, a representative of the Jewish Agency in Rio de Janeiro, are helping the family in their difficult time as well as bringing the body for a burial in Israel.
