Princess Kate Middleton revealed last night in a video she posted on social media that she was diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing preventive chemotherapy: "I want to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all the wonderful messages of support I received while I was recovering from the surgery, and for the understanding. These have been extremely complex months for our entire family," said Middleton in a moving message.

The 42-year-old princess added: "Prince William and I have done everything we can to process and manage the disease privately for our young family. It's been a very difficult couple of months for our family, but I've had a great medical team who have taken good care of me and I'm grateful for them."

It was also revealed that the princess underwent the surgery in January. The palace did not reveal details at the time but said that the procedure was planned and her condition "is not related to cancer." Apparently during the operation the cancerous lump that was removed was diagnosed, before being sent for a biopsy which confirmed that it was indeed a malignant cancer.
