Last night (Tuesday) dozens of protesters and climate activists demonstrated in front of the Swedish Parliament against the lack of political action regarding the climate crisis.
The demonstration was led by the 21-year-old Thunberg, who began the protests in 2018 and swept along dozens of young people around the world. Protesters blocked the entrances of the parliament holding signs with the inscription "Climate Justice Now."
Protests on the issue picked up speed during the last week in light of a preliminary report published by the European Union's Environmental Agency, which urged the member states to prepare for the drastic effects of the spreading crisis.
In the photos leaked online from the event of Greta's arrest, the well-known activist was seen wearing a kaffiyeh that has become a symbol of the Palestinian struggle.
Active in the Palestinian struggle In recent months, the climate activist has aggressively attacked Israel. During a "pro-Palestinian" demonstration held in Leipzig, Germany, Thunberg said: "No one can remain silent when there is ongoing genocide, we constantly have to stand up and speak out against oppression, imperialism, against war and against racism in any form", while at another demonstration held in Sweden she screamed: "Crush Zionism."
Following Thunberg's unilateral statements and positions ignoring the Hamas attack on Israel, a number of climate organizations have disavowed their support for her.
