The US delivered a warning to Iran before the lethal ISIS attack at the beginning of the month at the event in memory of IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani, where 100 were killed and hundreds more wounded, according to a report today (Thursday) by the Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, the American warning came after the US received intelligence pointing to the ISIS offshoot in Afghanistan planning an attack in Iran. Sources in the American administration said they warned the Iranian government based on a stated policy of seeking to avoid the deaths of innocent civilians in terror attacks.
The US claimed that the information provided Iran on the time and place of the attack was accurate enough to allow Tehran to foil it – but the Iranian government did not succeed in stopping it. According to the Iranian sources, Tehran did not respond to the American warnings, and it is not clear why they did not work to stop the attack.
