Foreign Minister Israel Katz spoke today (Tuesday) with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who emphasized Hungary's support for Israel's moves to defend itself since the terrorist attack on October 7 by Hamas. Szijjártó also called for the immediate release of all the abductees held in Gaza.

Referring to the complaint to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, the Hungarian Foreign Minister emphasized that "Hungary categorically disapproves of the absurd appeal against Israel, a country that is still facing terrorist threats against it these days." The two ministers are expected to meet next week in Jerusalem as part of the continued strengthening of relations between Israel and Hungary.

"I thank the Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó, a true friend of Israel, for the important public support," Katz said at the end of the conversation. "I am happy that Minister Szijjártó responded to my request and pledged to continue standing by Israel's side in the international arena, and in particular against South Africa's absurd lawsuit at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This institution was established to protect those who were attacked - and not those who attacked."
